My Go-To Wellness Shot
This wellness shot is a go-to weekly habit. It takes just a few minutes to make and is a simple and super effective way to pack in a ton of antioxidants and other ingredients that support my immune system and overall health.
Ingredients
3 oranges, peeled
3–4 lemons, seeds removed
½ cup peeled ginger root
½ cup peeled turmeric root
2–3 large garlic cloves
½–1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
Directions
Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth. If you need more liquid, you can always add a little filtered water.
You can strain it through a cheesecloth if you prefer a smoother consistency, but I usually leave it as is. Keeping the pulp means keeping the fiber, and I like getting the whole-food benefits.
Store in the refrigerator and enjoy a small shot daily.
The Good Stuff..
The citrus provides vitamin C and antioxidants to support immune health. Ginger helps support digestion and helps reduce inflammation. Garlic has long been valued for its immune-supporting and heart-health benefits. Cayenne adds a little fire while supporting circulation. The apple cider vinegar and olive oil round it all out, supporting digestion and helping your body absorb some of the beneficial compounds found in the other ingredients.
And the superstar is turmeric. Turmeric contains a powerful compound called curcumin, which has been studied for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The research suggest that curcumin offers support for several concerns that often show up during perimenopause and menopause, including:
Helping reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes
Supporting memory and cognitive function when brain fog feels like an unwanted houseguest
Supporting gut health, which can influence many other aspects of well-being
Supporting mood through its effects on inflammation and brain chemistry
Potentially supporting a healthy body composition as part of an overall wellness approach
